THE COVID- ERA
"When an experiment becomes poison, not only mankind the entire living suffers!"
SARS-CoV-2 is surely a deadly virus but was Coronavirus always deadly?
To answer this question it is important for all of us to first know what coronavirus basically is!
#Virus is a microbe(A microbe is an organism less than 1mm in size or one that cannot be seen with a naked eye). The size of a virus may be between 20nm to 250 - 400 nm
#Coronavirus-
•Size-80-220nm
•Family-Coronaviridae
•Subfamily-Coronavirinae
•Genus-1)Alpha coronavirus
2) Beta coronavirus
3)Gamma coronavirus
4)Delta coronavirus
#Mode of transmission-moisture droplets and aerosols(air-route).
#Seasonal dependence-Common in late winter and early spring.
#Antiquity- Coronavirus was discovered in 1960s and since then is known to cause various infections in humans and other animals.
#Most Common infection in humans-COMMON COLD .
# Common cold cases in human beings are mainly caused by 2 viruses-
1) Rhinovirus(70-80% cases)
2) Coronavirus (20-30% cases)
# MERS Coronavirus-A species of corovirus (Genus-Beta coronavirus)
that is zoonotic(spreads from animals to humans especially from camles) and cause severe respiratory infections and acute renal failure in coomplicated cases. It has no specific treatment and needs strict isolation. No vaccine is available against it.
#SARS Coronavirus(Genus-Beta coronavirus)-It is zoonotic and cause respiratory infection and may lead to pneumonia and eventually death.
SARS appeared in China in 2002 and spread worldwide. It became a worldwide epidemic in 2002-2003.
#COVID-19- Mode of infection-respiratory droplets, saliva, nasal discharge, tears.
Infection caused-Respiratory infection; mainly the lungs are infected leading to pneumonia.
-Covid19 is the cause of the deadly pandemic of 2019-2020.
-Treatment- Not known. All the patients are being treated based on their symptoms or few tested drug cominations(Hydroxychloroquin + drugs like azithromycin).
-Isolation measures-These are the same measures that were taken to control SARS epidemic of 2002 because we still don't know much about features of covid19.
#Comparision between SARS and Covid-19:
1. Emergence of SARS- Winter 2002
Emergence of covid19- Winter 2019
2. Cases - Cases of SARS were very less as compared to coronavirus.
3- Diarrhoe ,vomiting, arthralgia were common in SARS but uncommon in Covid-19 disease.
#It becomes very clear from the above text that Coronavirus is an old virus. It is not new , IT HAS ONLY TAKEN A NEW FORM!
#An experimental mutation in its gentic organization may have caused it to become highly virulent/pathogenic. This experimental mutation possibly took place in a research laboratory of People's Republic of China.
# As soon as I got to know about the coronavirus mishappenings through the media, I was shocked to know that a virus which I learnt in my bachelors as a small part of my syllabus has become a big poison against the living!
However, I was not able to understand why people are calling it a new virus because it is too old. It is just a new species. But can a mutation change an organism to this extent?Yes!it surely can. The smaller the organism the easier it is to mutate it!
This is the reason I decided to communicate about this deadly virus to the common people so that I take up the responsibility of communicating science to all so that none of us would blame it on God that he sent a deadly virus because it is us who did the mutation!
May be it was not the intention of the researcher to hit the mankind this hard but it has done this now and we all are feeling helpless.
To stop this virus all we need is ANOTHER MUTATION! Stop experimenting in fields where it is not needed ,instead research about something which we are in need of!
"It is time to become constructive and mutate our destructive thoughts into constructive ones!"
